Washington, DC—Vika Visual Arts Association (VVAA) is pleased to announce a group exhibition, Healing, Connection & Preservation,” the association’s inaugural art exhibition and the capstone event of its 2023 “Mind Your Art Business” artist development program.

The exhibition includes several works by each of the five visual artists currently participating in VVAA’s program: Brittany Mona’, James Flowers, Eanaj Janae, Tori Kovarik, and Zehra Batool.

“I am excited to showcase the work of these talented, emerging artists,” says Devika Strother, VVAA founder and executive director. “It is an honor to provide this platform for their work to be seen and their artistic voices heard.”

The works created by this diverse group of artists encompass a wide range of artistic practices and media, including acrylic painting, watercolor, and mixed media. Each artist brings a unique perspective to their work, informed largely by their individual experiences and cultural identities. Thematically, however, the exhibition is a powerful and cohesive reflection of their shared practices and beliefs in utilizing their art as a personal expression and form of healing, connection, and preservation, both personally and collectively.

“When I first began working with visual artists in 2016 through my magazine on contemporary art, ArtDiction, I soon realized that artists often struggled to promote their work, because they lacked basic knowledge about the business of art,” recalls Strother. “Beyond promoting their work in the magazine, I decided to establish the association as a more direct and hands-on way to provide artists with the foundational information and tools needed to further their careers. Now, as we approach this exhibition for our first cohort of artists, I am excited, both for the artists and the association, to be able to share their work with our community.”

Healing, Connection, and Preservation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Asian Fusion Gallery, located at 1343 L Street, NW. RSVP to attend the free event at https://bit.ly/hcpartshow.
